The Coalition for Queer Youth is celebrating Queer Youth Empowerment Month this October with the launch of a new exhibition, “Testimony.” The living exhibition will seek to tell the stories of what it’s like to be young and lesbian, gay, bi, transgender, and queer identified. This call for submissions is open for ALL – current and former youth alike! “Testimony” will highlight the unique voices, personal experiences, and perspectives of LGBTQ individuals on life as a young person. The exhibition invites you to submit your creative pieces using any artistic medium including poetry, sculpture, painting, song, and video. According to the Coalition, “submissions will be displayed in public spaces and an online gallery, serving as a living, ongoing tribute to the rich culture of strength, beauty and brilliance LGBTQ-young people possess.” The important details:
- For more information, check out the Coalition for Queer Youth Facebook page.
- All submissions will be reviewed by members of the Coalition prior to approval for exhibition. Please send your piece or a detailed description (including images/dimensions), your current age, along with any artist information and/or statement about the work via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Submissions do not have to be unique to this exhibit – feel free to submit pieces from other projects as long as they speak to the theme of “queer youth.”
- The project will launch in October for Queer Youth Empowerment Month AND will continue to grow as an ongoing, living project. To have your piece considered for the opening, submissions are due by September 30, 2011. DO continue to make further submissions after this deadline to be considered for the larger context of the exhibit.
