More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.
Chely Wright and Lauren Blitzer Say 'I do'
Chely Wright and her fiancée Lauren Blitzer got married in a private ceremony this Saturday. The two announced their engagement this past April along with plans to have a ceremony on August 20, 2011.
The GLAAD Media Award-Nominated country singer and her LGBT advocate wife were married as planned in Connecticut at Blitzer's aunt's home with 200 guests in attendance. Blitzer tweeted this picture of the brides with the caption "The Blitzer-Wrights."
The two met through Wright's youth advocacy group, The LIKE ME Organization. The country singer recently told People Magazine of her wife-to-be: "The freedom of being out and open about who I am allowed me to find and fall in love with Lauren – the most amazing woman I've ever known."
Wright was one of the first major country singers to come out when she shared her personal story with People in May 2010 and has since been an outspoken advocate of marriage equality. GLAAD extends its warmest congratulations to the couple on their nuptials.
