More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.
GLAAD Manhattan Will Be a Celebration to Remember!
Ever since the historic vote that brought marriage equality to the Empire State last month, summer has seemed like one big celebration. GLAAD staff were hard at work on the ground in lower Manhattan for the first marriages this past weekend, offering media trainings and assistance to the more than 400 couples who exchanged vows on Sunday, July 24.
As we enter into the first full week of marriage equality in New York, come join GLAAD for another celebration! This chic summer cocktail reception is going to be an occasion to rejoice.
So on August 2, 2011, we’re going to kick back, relax, and enjoy an enchanting summer evening. We’ll be taking over New York City with our annual community event GLAAD Manhattan, presented by Delta and RÖKK Vodka.
This Brazilian carnival-themed celebration will include delicious food, great music, and hosted cocktails as we highlight GLAAD’s work and celebrate the victories for equality that have occurred this summer.
Guests will have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction, receive a gift bag, and purchase raffle tickets to win extraordinary prizes. The silent auction will even include a special marriage equality section for those who haven’t yet tied the knot – come bid on items such as wedding cake gift certificates, rings, and wedding planning services!
With Lance Bass, Phillip Bloch, Lisa Lampanelli, Amanda Lepore, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Jane Velez-Mitchell, the cast of The A List: New York, and more on the event’s honorary host committee, this is not a celebration to be missed!
GLAAD Manhattan will take place on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on the 20th Floor Roof Top Garden at 230 Fifth Avenue. Be sure to buy your tickets before they sell out so you can join us for this festive night!
