More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.
"Injustice At Every Turn": IN THE LIFE Reports on the National Transgender Discrimination Survey
IN THE LIFE has produced a special report highlighting the findings of the first National Transgender Discrimination Survey, featuring the stories of two transgender women whose experiences reflect the survey’s findings.
The longest running television series highlighting LGBT issues and culture, IN THE LIFE’s special “Injustice at Every Turn” features the personal stories of Ja’briel and Michelle, two transgender women whose experiences reflect the findings of the first comprehensive transgender discrimination study completed by the National Center for Transgender Equality and the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force.
The study and IN THE LIFE’s report find that transgender and gender non-conforming people are marginalized because of their gender identity and expression, and the lack of hard data on the discrimination they face has hindered their pursuit of fairness and equality. Transgender people face inordinately and astoundingly high levels of discrimination both personally and professionally, and the findings of the first-ever national transgender discrimination survey illustrate the scope of discrimination in the lives of transgender people and concludes with a call to action, “to make a significant difference between the current climate of discrimination and violence and a world of freedom and equality.”
