More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.
Rhode Island Marriage Coalition Unveils TV Ad in Support of Marriage Equality Legislation
Today, the Rhode Island Marriage Coalition unveiled a television ad that advocates for the passage of marriage equality legislation in Rhode Island. The ad begins airing today.
The ad was produced by the Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD). Sixty seconds in length, the commercial features six diverse couples from Rhode Island, discussing what marriage means to them and why the time has come for the Rhode Island General Assembly to adopt marriage equality legislation.
"Today's roll out is the next step in a broader strategic plan aimed at raising awareness and building the wave of support necessary to achieve a legislative victory this year," said Martha Holt, Marriage Equality Rhode Island board member. "The message of the commercial, 'It's Time,' reflects a belief shared by a majority of Rhode Islanders - it's time we live up to our founding principles and make marriage equality the law for all Rhode Islanders."
U.S. Rep. Jim Langevin (D-Rhode Island) penned an op-ed in the Saturday edition of The Providence Journal that echoed this sentiment.
In November 2010, GLAAD was on the ground in Providence, training couples on how to share their stories of love and commitment with the media. Additional spokesperson trainings are in the works, and we look forward to doing all that we can to make marriage equality a reality in Rhode Island!
