Sen. Chambliss' Office Admits Hateful Anti-Gay Blog Comments Originated There

Georgia Senator Saxby Chambliss’ office has admitted that vile anti-gay comments, posted this week to one of the most popular LGBT blogs, originated there. The comment, “All F*ggots Must Die,” was left at Joe My God on Tuesday, in his post about Senators (including Chambliss himself) refusing to allow debate on a Defense bill that would allow the Pentagon to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that Chambliss' office released this statement about the matter:

“The (Sergeant at Arms) has worked side by side with our personnel to determine whether the comment in question emanated from our office. That appears to be the case,” an unsigned statement from Chambliss’ press office read.

“There has not been a determination as to who posted the comment,” the statement read. “That part of the review is ongoing, and is now in the hands of the Senate Sergeant at Arms.”

Chambliss' office confirmed the investigation but has not, as of yet, denounced the comment. Chambliss himself doesn’t have a good record when it comes to LGBT equality – he has a 20% rating from the Human Rights Campaign (after two consecutive years at 0%), and infamously said earlier this year that lifting the ban on gays and lesbians serving openly could lead to the military relaxing other regulations, like those against alcohol and tattoos.

That statement  pales in comparison to the hateful language posted by someone in his office this week and Chambliss doesn’t need to wait for the investigation to be over to condemn the remarks, and all other defamation against the LGBT community.
