More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.
Senate Confirms Elena Kagan as Supreme Court Judge
Thursday, August 5, 2010 - 4:43pm by Aaron McQuade, Director of News and Field Media at GLAAD
The US Senate voted 63-37 on Thursday to confirmĀ current Solicitor General Elena Kagan, to the United States Supreme Court. Five Republicans (Lindsey Graham, Dick Lugar, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, and Judd Gregg) joined all but one Democrat (Ben Nelson) in supporting Kagan. She becomes the 112th person to sit on the US Supreme Court, and the fourth woman. Many of Kagan's opponents cited her decision as Dean of Harvard Law School not to directly sponsor military recruiters on campus, because the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy violates Harvard's non-discrimination policy.
