This morning, the nominations for the 2010 Tony Awards were announced, and feature several LGBT actors, as well as several plays and musicals that feature LGBT themes. Included in the nominations for Best Play is Geoffrey Naufft's Next Fall, which is a moving story about a gay couple struggling with their opposing views on religion. An interesting mix of comedy and drama, Next Fall follows a unique relationship between Luke, an Evangelical Christian and Adam, an atheist, and how their unique experiences allow them to forge a relationiship that transcends their divergent faiths. Also LGBT-inclusive is the Broadway classic La Cage Aux Folles, which is nominated in the Best Revival of a Musical category. Openly gay actor Robin De Jesus was nominated in the Best Performance by a Featured Actor category for his role as Jacob, the family's gay servant. A critically-acclaimed hit, La Cage Aux Folles was groundbreaking at the time of its original release and paved the way for LGBT representations in theatre.
