What to Watch: This Weekend (January 8-10)

This weekend we celebrate The Simpsons, television's longest running primetime series which will air its 450th episode on Sunday followed by an hour-long special. Afterwards, switch over to HBO for the season premiere of Big Love.

Friday, January 8

Bones' Agent Booth questions the gay couple at the block party

8:00 pm Bones, Fox (1 hr) REPEAT
Everyone, including a gay couple, is a suspect tonight when human remains turn up at a neighborhood block party, leaving Booth and Brennan to figures out who the culprit is.

10:00 pm Shameless, Sundance (1 hr) NEW
A gas leak brings a sexy fireman named Sean to the Gallaghers and Ian and Mandy square off for his attention. The show also features Ian’s bisexual mother, Monica, her ex-girlfriend Norma, and Ian’s love interest, Mickey.

Move over Leno! The queen of funny is taking over with her own late night talk show! Don’t miss Wanda comment on everything from news, politics, sports, and pop culture mixed with field pieces, comedy segments, and panel discussions.

8:00 pm The Simpsons, Fox (30 min) 450th EPISODE!
The Simpsons celebrate a major milestone tonight as the long-running animated series broadcasts its 450th original episode. In it, Krusty falls for a princess voiced by Anne Hathaway and Mr. Burns cuts costs by no longer providing free donuts. Smithers better safeguard his beloved boss before an angry Homer gets to him!

The Simpsons celebrate 20 years

8:30 pm The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special – In 3D! On Ice!, Fox (1 hr) NEW
GLAAD Media Award winning filmmaker Morgan Spurlock talks to the cast, writers and celebrities about the enormous cultural impact of The Simpsons. In addition, Spurlock travels the country to visit with some of the shows biggest fans.

9:00 pm Big Love, HBO (1 hr) SEASON PREMIERE
HBO’s critically acclaimed drama about a polygamist family in Utah returns for its fourth season just as the Henricksons are slated to open their new casino. Bill should be careful because Alby Grant, the closeted son of the recently deceased prophet is power hungry and willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants.

9:00 pm Desperate Housewives, ABC (1 hr) NEW
Susan turns up the heat for Mike by taking it off. Given Susan’s history of clumsiness though, she should take it easy on that stripper pole. Meanwhile, Bree must deal with the aftermath of Karl’s death and Orson’s paralysis.

9:30 pm The Cleveland Show, Fox (30 min) NEW
GLAAD recently called out this show for some objectionable transgender content, but tonight should be a treat as Margaret Cho guests as herself and Jane Lynch guests as Roberta’s new teacher, Ms. Eck.

10:00 pm Brothers & Sisters, ABC (1 hr) NEW
As Kevin and Scotty move forward with their plans to have a baby, recently single Sarah becomes intrigued by a divorced dad at Paige’s school and Nora cautiously gives Simon a second chance.
