AP reported yesterday that anti-gay reggae singer Buju Banton was arrested in Florida for possession of five kilograms of cocaine with intent to distribute. Banton has been in U.S. federal custody since Thursday.
Buju Banton has been the source of ongoing protests in the LGBT community because the singer has advocated violence against LGBT people in his song lyrics and public statements. Last week, GLAAD launched an online petition drive to protest the Recording Academy's Grammy nomination of Buju Banton's latest album, "Rasta Got Soul," for Best Reggae Album. To date, more than 3,200 community members have signed on. To add your name, please visit: www.glaad.org/bujubantonpetition
