More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.
African American Celebs Say Yes to Marriage Equality
True Blood hottie Mehcad Brooks, better known as Eggs, added his voice in support of LGBT equality. In an interview with Honey Magazine Brooks stated, “I’m not even concerned with marrying somebody until it’s legal for everybody to get married. And what I mean by that is the whole Prop 8 thing.”
When pressed about why he feels so passionate about the cause he goes on to say it’s offensive to him that people’s rights are being thrown away. Brooks’ support comes on the heels of Le Toya’s Luckett’s support of LGBT equality in last month’s issue of The Advocate. The Destiny’s Child alum said she believes that things are going to have to change or “people are going to move and go to places where it’s accepted”. "Everybody deserves love. Everybody deserves commitment. And why shouldn’t the gay community have that?” Amen Sister LeToya!
Brooks and Luckett join the ranks of high profile African-American celebs in support of marriage equality like: Russell Simmons, Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, and Samuel L Jackson.
