There will be a lot of great LGBT films to choose from when NewFest kicks off this week in New York, but we had a chance to catch a sneak peek of Astoria, Queens, a hilarious 21-minute gem that will be showing on Saturday, June 6 as part of the comedy shorts program. Written and directed by Kyle Thomas Coker, Astoria, Queens follows four twenty-something Kansas City transplants trying to navigate their new lives in the Big Apple. It recently had its world premiere at OUT Film CT and will be showing again later this month at the Breckenridge Festival of Film. Though it's entered as a short film, Astoria, Queens is actually meant to be a sitcom pilot and is being shopped around as such, so here's hoping we'll all soon be tuning in every week on the small screen! It stars Aaron Michael Davies, James Heffon, Sangeeta Parekh, and Hayley Thompson-King. You can find out more at the Astoria, Queens official website.
