More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi will receive the Humane Society of the United States' Wyler Award, which is given to public figures who have made news on behalf of animals.
The award will be given to the couple at the 23rd Genesis Awards at the Beverly Hilton on March 28.
