This Friday, Rob Epstein (The Times of Harvey Milk, The Celluloid Closet) will be presented with the Pioneer Award at the International Documentary Association's annual awards ceremony.

Epstein's Oscar-winning Harvey Milk docu laid the groundwork for current release Milk, which incidentally goes into wider release the same day that Epstein receives his IDA honor.

Elsewhere on the IDA program is the award for Short Documentary, a competition between five films including Tongzhi in Love, the story of a group of gay friends in China struggling with tradition, family, and being true to themselves.

The IDA event will take place at the Directors Guild of America at 7920 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90046. Tickets (which include a free one year IDA membership) are available for purchase by clicking here.
