George Takei (Heroes) is not the only Star Trek star asking California voters to vote NO on Prop. 8. He has been joined by actor John Cho (Harold & Kumar), who reprises Takei's role of Sulu in the upcoming Star Trek film.

The two joined Asian American leaders and organizations united to oppose Prop. 8, which seeks to eliminate the fundamental right for same-sex couples to marry in California.

Events were held in both San Francisco and in Los Angeles on Oct. 23, featuring state and local elected officials seeking to counter misinformation and fears being spread by deceptive ads in the Asian Pacific Islander communities. In Los Angeles, the event took place at the Democracy Forum of the Japanese American National Museum where Takei wed longtime partner Brad Altman in September.

Cho said he wants to make sure Prop. 8 is defeated so his young son grows up in a world where all loving and committed couples can marry.

Among others in attendance were California State Controller John Chiang, Judy Chu, the Chair of the California State Board of Equalization, and assemblymembers Ted Lieu, Fiona Ma, Mike Eng and Warren Furutani.
