More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.

We all can agree Oscar-winning actress Marlee Matlin is a genius, right? Not only is she incredibly talented (Children of a Lesser God, anyone?) and brave (Dancing with the Star's first deaf contestant), she also makes a fine lesbian: (watch the past two seasons of The L Word).
That's why we've chosen Marlee, a longtime ally, to kick off National Coming Out Day countdown week. The annual event takes place every October 11, and this Saturday will mark the twentieth Coming Out Day. In anticipation of this landmark occasion, we're releasing exclusively on this blog a different PSA every day, spots that are part of GLAAD's ongoing "Be an Ally & a Friend" campaign.
