More than 1,500 New Yorkers gathered today in Manhattan to mourn the death of a 32 year-old gay man, who was shot down on Friday just blocks away from the historic Stonewall Inn in an apparent act of anti-gay bias.

Wow! What an event! (Click here to view more pictures.)
GLAAD's VIP Reception before the NY Liberty's final home game was a resounding success. Well over 60 New Yorkers turned up before the game to rub elbows with the likes of former Liberty superstar Kym Hampton and the Big Gay Sketch Show's Kate McKinnon.
Everyone who purchased a ticket through GLAAD received admission to the VIP reception, great seats to the game and, for those new to GLAAD, a free one-year membership. Additionally, one lucky lady won a basketball signed by the entire 2008 NY Liberty team!
It also was an opportunity for everyone to hear about GLAAD's Sports Media Program. GLAAD Board Member Laurie Perper, GLAAD President Neil G. Giuliano and yours truly addressed the group to let them know some of the work we're doing and why having fair, accurate, and inclusive stories and images of LGBT people in sports coverage is so important.

As Neil mentioned in his speech - everyone plays sports at some time in their life. Whether it's rolling a ball as a baby, Little League, or professional basketball, we're all linked in some way.
